PRESS RELEASE – January 9, 2015

WASBE Conference to take place in Utrecht, The Netherlands

Benicia, California: The World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) is pleased to announce that its biennial international conference will be hosted in the city of Utrecht, The Netherlands, July 16---23, 2017. World Projects, along with partners ZIMIHC and WENS Travel, will act as the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 2017 conference.

Approximately 17 wind bands from across the world will be accepted to perform at the conference with the main concert venue expected to be the Great Hall at TivoliVredenburg. In addition to daily concerts, those attending the conference will be able to attend and participate in repertoire sessions, lectures, discussions and master classes which are expected to be hosted at the Utrecht Conservatorium. The use of both venues is supported by the City of Utrecht.

World Projects is thrilled to announce our partnership with The Boston Composers’ Coalition!  Beginning in 2014, one participating adjudicated ensemble at each of our seven domestic festivals will be selected to work directly with a composer from the Boston Composers’ Coalition on the development of a piece commissioned specifically for that ensemble. The group will perform this commissioned work as a World Premiere during their adjudicated performance at the festival!

Bob Lutt was born in 1929 in small-town Nebraska. He attended the local public schools, graduating from high school in 1946 at the age of 15. His love of music started at home.

"I was very lucky to have a mother who was a magnificent singer. In the little town I grew up in there was a very good school band and she put a lot of effort into getting me involved with it. My first instrument was the trombone -- I started when I was twelve."

He entered Wayne State College in the fall of 1946, the first person in his extended family to attend college.
