The question from a 20-year-old American college student in London was not the auspicious start I had been hoping for.

I had been asked by a U.S. tour operator client of ours to speak to a group of fifty business studies undergraduates about "international business" during their class trip to London. I had prepared myself for questions on our banking system, our recent political changes, and European trade agreements, and, although I did later get questions on those themes, I was coming face-to-face first with deep-rooted concerns and stereotypical impressions. In October this year, I had the opportunity to travel to Iceland on a setup trip to learn not only about the wonderful culture and group touring sites on offer but also about the musical opportunities available to visiting bands, choirs and orchestras.

For a country with roughly the same population as St. Louis, Missouri, I was fascinated by the musical heritage and progression found not only in the larger cities, but across the country. In addition to its natural and musical offerings, Iceland has become a much more affordable destination after its economic crash in 2008. Full Article
