We're also excited to welcome composer Vince Oliver to the World Projects family!
Vince Oliver began his musical journey at the age of nine. He continued his studies in music with percussion performance and music composition at University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. Mr. Oliver's wind ensemble and orchestra compositions have been performed at The Walt Disney Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and The Palau de Música in Barcelona. Vince currently resides in Los Gatos, California. He is the percussion director/composer-in-residence at Saratoga High School, endorsed by Innovative Percussion, and is a proud member of ASCAP.
Song for Maya was commissioned by Ramiro Barrera for his daughter - accomplished oboist Maya Barrera. Loosely written in song form, the piece is ultimately intended to be the middle movement of a larger work for oboe and wind band, though it works well as a standalone lyrical showpiece for any advanced oboe player. Daylight Passing is the second piece Brett Abigaña has published with World Projects. It was commissioned for the Woodland High School Wind Ensemble in 2012 and their conductor, Mr. John C. Abigana, who is Brett Abigaña's father. The piece presents different melodic ideas rooted in the fragmented memories of Abigaña's childhood. Abigaña was about to become a father at the time the piece was written which led to much of his inspiration. The piece contains a driving, unyielding momentum interspersed with different fragmented musical statements. Click here to find out more about Brett Abigaña and Daylight Passing!
